Renovation Questions, Answered
Costs, timelines, permits, deposits and warranty — the things Kitchener-Waterloo homeowners ask us most.
- How much does a bathroom renovation cost in Kitchener?
- Every bathroom is different, so we price each one after seeing it. Cost is driven by the size of the room, whether plumbing or walls move, the tile and fixture selections, and whether the shower is a tiled build or a prefabricated base. We give you an itemised written quote before any work starts, and it is free with no obligation.
- How much does a kitchen renovation cost?
- The biggest cost drivers in a kitchen are cabinetry, countertops and whether the layout changes. Keeping the layout and refacing or replacing cabinets is far less than moving plumbing, removing a wall or adding an island with services. We walk through the options with you and quote each scenario so you can choose what fits your budget.
- How long does a renovation take?
- As a rough guide: a bathroom is usually two to four weeks on site, a kitchen four to eight weeks, and a finished basement six to ten weeks depending on bathrooms, egress windows and permits. We give you a schedule with your quote and keep you updated as the work moves.
- Do I need a building permit?
- Permits are typically required when you move or remove structural walls, alter plumbing or electrical layouts, add a bedroom or egress window in a basement, or build an addition or deck above a certain height. We tell you up front what your project needs and handle the permit process and inspections with the City of Kitchener, City of Waterloo, City of Cambridge or Guelph.
- What does the 5 year written warranty cover?
- Our workmanship. If something we installed fails because of how it was built or installed, we come back and fix it within five years, in writing, at no cost to you. Manufacturer warranties on products and appliances are separate and we register those for you where they apply.
- Do you charge for a quote?
- No. Quotes are free and carry no obligation. We come to your home, measure, discuss what you want and send you a written quote you can compare.
- How do payments and deposits work?
- We work on a deposit to secure materials and your spot in the schedule, then progress payments tied to completed stages of the work, with a final payment when the job is finished and you are happy with it. Everything is written into the contract before we start — no surprises.
- Will my home be liveable during the work?
- In most cases yes. We dust-seal work areas, protect floors and walkways, and clean up at the end of every day. For a kitchen we will help you set up a temporary kitchen so you can keep cooking while the work runs.
- Which areas do you serve?
- Kitchener, Waterloo, Cambridge, Guelph, Elmira, New Hamburg, Breslau and the wider Region of Waterloo.
- Do you handle water damage restoration?
- Yes. We work with insurance claims, match the price and pay the deductible, and rebuild the affected area so it matches the rest of your home.
